Coalition for Animal Welfare in Seattle (CAWS)

The Coalition for Animal Welfare in Seattle (CAWS) is a group of advocates, organizations, and volunteers working together to address the issues surrounding animal welfare in the City of Seattle. CAWS recognizes that the realities of animal welfare and animal services in Seattle have not been recognized or addressed for many years. Such issues include general transparency at the municipal shelter, outdated local laws, the intersectionality of social issues with animal welfare issues, interdepartmental cooperation, animal cruelty prosecutions, off-leash area and volunteer support, regulation of for-profit pet services, and community cat and spay/neuter programs. These issues will only worsen over time with the influx of the human and animal population in the next ten years. CAWS members will work together to craft solutions, advocate for change, build relationships, and learn from each other. We will communicate, meet, and strategize. We will engage with our elected officials and their staff. CAWS is committed to action and not just words.
